PM Pashinyan on Increased Import Duties for Vehicles

The tax is going up; let electric cars be imported. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during an annual press conference, addressing the issue of raising import taxes on vehicles.

He also noted that our country should not turn into a graveyard for old cars; rather, it should be a country with electric vehicles and electric buses. Armenia must become a technological country.

"Within the framework of EAEU regulations, this is a very complex issue because we have already reached an agreement, and the tax will increase. All those engaged in this trade are importing so many cars into Armenia that it will take about 7-8 years to sell those cars for them to get consumed. There are unprecedented volumes of cars in Armenia today," said the Prime Minister.

According to the Prime Minister, the implementation of the new customs duties will not harm the Armenian state budget.

It should be noted that by the government’s decision, the import of electric vehicles has been exempted from taxes since 2020.

According to the data from the State Revenue Committee, only in April 2019, 9,481 vehicles were imported, while in April 2018, 4,324 vehicles were imported.
