According to Pashinyan, there are still embezzlers in the army today
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the issue of why soldiers' parents continue to send packages during a meeting with reporters. The Prime Minister took a deep look into the problem, stating that there are issues with mechanisms.
"I summoned the Chief of General Staff, saying that I am raising such an issue, can you solve the problem? They said there is no issue, we will solve it. About 10 days after that, I received news that officers were entering military units, conducting searches, and confiscating items sent by parents from the soldiers. In other words, the instruction was carried out differently. After that, I went to the positions and said, let’s bring the soldiers' food. I personally ate it. As a result, I felt bad, and I ordered those food items to be removed from circulation. 2-3 months later, I note that they have still not been removed from circulation," he said.
The Prime Minister noted that to solve the issue of undergarments and to eliminate corrupt risks, all companies were invited simultaneously and discussions were held under camera scrutiny.
"Today I can state that our soldiers are provided with high-quality underpants and shirts," he added.
Currently, new boots are in the testing phase. The first impression has been positive, but there are complaints that are being addressed. The Prime Minister pointed out that there is also a problem with the uniforms. They want to increase the cotton content in the uniforms. For those serving in warmer regions, there may be summer short-sleeved uniform options.
The Prime Minister also addressed contract servicemen. Before they ascend to the positions, they shop at stores and take supplies with them. The Prime Minister instructed to find out what items are being bought from the store and to ensure that soldiers are provided with those supplies so that they no longer have to shop at stores. The food has also included lavash, honey, and seasonal items like cucumber and tomato.
Regarding the packages, the Prime Minister assured that these are individual matters.
"For example, we don’t give candies, but we provide snacks. There is also the issue of cigarettes. We are planning to increase the soldiers' provisions," said the Prime Minister.
He noted that there are still embezzlers in the army today, and criminal cases have been initiated.
