Bako Sahakyan and Arkadi Ghukasyan Request Change of Robert Kocharyan's Detention
President of the Artsakh Republic Bako Sahakyan and the second President of Artsakh Arkadi Ghukasyan have addressed a letter to the Prosecutor General of Armenia Arthur Davtyan, calling for a change in the detention measure of the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan.
The letter states:
“Dear Mr. Davtyan,
As you know, every year on May 9, a celebratory event is held in Artsakh to commemorate Victory Day, the Day of the Artsakh Defense Army, and the Liberation of Shushi. According to tradition, all former leaders of the Artsakh Republic, esteemed guests, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the Artsakh war, have stood at the forefront of our state's and army's establishment, and have participated in the liberation of Shushi, attend the celebrations in Stepanakert and Shushi.
Given that the first President of the Artsakh Republic Robert Kocharyan is currently detained, we ask that you make a decision to change his detention measure ahead of May 9.
We are prepared to provide any public guarantees necessary for his release from isolation and to remain at liberty throughout the trial process.
We hope that your decision will allow all three presidents of the Artsakh Republic to participate in the May 9 celebrations in Stepanakert and Shushi, which will undoubtedly send a message of solidarity and unity not only to our society but also to the entire world and to our adversary.”
