LIVE: Taxi Drivers Open Koruyun-Abovyan Intersection
Taxi drivers have opened the intersection of Koruyun and Abovyan streets in Yerevan. They were approached by the head of the Traffic Police, Egor Karapetyan.
It was decided that the protesters would discuss the resolution of the issue with Karapetyan at the Traffic Police headquarters.
It should be noted that taxi drivers are demanding a legal stopping place for parking in that area. The drivers are calling for a meeting with the head of the Traffic Police, Egor Karapetyan.
According to the drivers, they went to the city hall, and a parking spot was provided, but they were only told that the prohibitory sign had to be removed.
The police, in turn, stated that drivers wouldn't be photographed for a month until the paperwork is completed, but a month later it turned out that a fine of 150,000 drams had been imposed for every day. The participants of the protest are demanding the removal of the sign prohibiting parking and the cancellation of the administrative violation notice. They now want to speak with someone who can fulfill their promise.
“We will not leave here until a stop sign is put up,” said one of the protesting drivers.
