Advisor to Artsakh President Does Not Rule Out Large-Scale Military Operations
Recently, there has been an increase in the activity of the opposing forces along various sections of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan contact line, manifested in large-scale engineering works as well as violations of the ceasefire regime.
Araratnews.am contacted Tigran Abrahamyan, an advisor to the president of Artsakh, to inquire why Azerbaijan is being so active. The presidential advisor recalled that engineering works along the Artsakh-Azerbaijan contact line began several months ago: “There has only been a positive change regarding the reduction of ceasefire violations, while engineering works and various military exercises have continued. In other words, Baku's activity has not diminished,” he noted.
According to Tigran Abrahamyan, Azerbaijan's activity is linked to the failure to resume negotiations: “Although meetings took place and optimistic statements were made, a negotiation platform has not been formed,” our interlocutor pointed out.
Abrahamyan believes that the opponent's activity will escalate the situation at the front line, as Baku is following old methods of intimidation.
Could this be a sign of large-scale war? The advisor to the Artsakh president considers Azerbaijan's activity a threat and a sign that the situation may change rapidly: “The visible processes at the front line provide grounds to assert that we will witness large-scale military operations in a very short time. If the situation does not change sharply, Azerbaijan does not retreat from its adventures, and the international community does not take effective steps for de-escalation, there will be greater tension in the situation.”
