Manvel Grigoryan to Remain in Custody

The trial of Manvel Grigoryan, the former president of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union and a deputy of the sixth convocation of the National Assembly, along with his wife Nazik Amiryan and son Arman Grigoryan, is ongoing at the central court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan.

During today’s preliminary hearing, the defense once again requested to change Manvel Grigoryan's preventive measure of custody on health grounds.

State prosecutor Hayk Petrosyan cited Article 62 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, stating that this is still a preliminary hearing and that Manvel Grigoryan does not yet have the status of a defendant. In response, defense attorney Karen Kamalyan reminded that, according to Article 303 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, a court session cannot take place without the defendant's presence, and Manvel Grigoryan already has the status of a defendant since the case is in court.

The court rejected the request to replace the preventive measure of custody with bail, citing that it was unfounded.

The court session has been postponed.
