Gun Disarmament of 23-Year-Old During Hooliganism Incident in Vanadzor

An extraordinary incident occurred in the Lori region on May 1. Around 22:40, officers from the Bazum police station in Vanadzor apprehended a citizen suspected of hooliganism while he was driving a BMW with license plate 96 GC 777.

According to Shamshyan.com, the Bazum police and the 3rd squad of the special police noticed that the suspect was firing shots with his hand raised near building 79 on Tigran Mets Avenue. The officers, risking their lives, were able to disarm the individual effectively, preventing further gunfire.

The individual involved has been identified as 23-year-old Armen Kharatyan, a resident of Yerevan Highway in Vanadzor. During a personal search, a handgun was discovered in his right waist area. The young man, who had fired shots, confessed in the police station that he had purchased the gun a year ago while he was in the Russian Federation, specifically in Moscow. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the firing.

He explained to the police that he discharged his weapon because, upon arriving at the scene, he saw a group gathered around his father and presumed they were in a dispute. In a state of agitation, he fired shots in the air and stated that if the officers had not disarmed him quickly, he could have fired indiscriminately, endangering citizens.

Reportedly, the shooter's father works in a private taxi service. The Bazum police investigative department is preparing materials regarding the incident. The handgun has been confiscated by the investigator, and several examinations have been ordered.
