Government Forgives Credit Obligations of Political Prisoners Amounting to 343 Million Drams
The government decided at its meeting today, May 2, to forgive the credit obligations of political prisoners and formalize it as state assistance.
Specifically, it was decided to waive the outstanding balance on long-term loans issued under preferential conditions for the purpose of improving housing conditions for political prisoners, funded by the state budgets of Armenia from 2002 to 2012, and to forgive the penalties calculated for overdue obligations prior to the entry into force of this decision, framing it as state financial assistance.
The necessity for adopting this project arises from the fact that the overwhelming majority of individuals receiving loans from the state budget are socially vulnerable and elderly persons who objectively lack the means to fulfill their credit obligations.
