Former MP Stepan Barseghyan Passes Away
Former governor of Gegharkunik and MP Stepan Barseghyan has passed away on April 29 at the age of 61 after a long illness. The funeral service will be held today in his hometown of Vardenis.
Barseghyan was elected as a member of the Vardenis Regional Council in 1990 and served as the head of the executive committee of the Vardenis Regional Council from 1993 to 1995.
In 1995, he was elected as a member of the National Assembly of Armenia, serving again from 1999 to 2003.
From 1998 to 1999, he held the position of head of the Vardenis Cadastre, served as the Deputy Chairman of the State Social Security Service in 2003, and was the governor of Gegharkunik from 2003 to 2006.
From 2006 until 2015, Barseghyan served as the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration.
Barseghyan participated in the defense of Armenia's borders and the Artsakh Liberation War, for which he was awarded a combat-style Makarov pistol, the “Andranik Ozanyan” medal from the Minister of Defense, and the “Mothers of Artsakh” medal.
