Drivers to Be Fined for Violating Waffle Line Markings at Intersections
The Traffic Police has proposed changes regarding the so-called "waffle" markings at intersections. This was announced today during a press conference by the head of the Traffic Police, Egor Karapetyan.
“When the Traffic Police made the markings, we issued a statement that this was experimental, so our drivers could see and learn from it. Today, the Traffic Police has presented changes that will come into effect on May 5, including the ‘waffle’ markings. We will mark the problematic intersections with ‘waffles’ again, road signs will be installed, and fines will be imposed. The fine will be 5000 drams,” said Egor Karapetyan.
The deputy head of the Traffic Police, Arman Chilingaryan, also stated that changes are expected regarding roundabouts from May 5.
“You know that we have been applying the traffic signs experimentally for about a year, which stated that drivers inside the roundabout have priority over those entering. Now, the rule has changed, and starting from May 5, in all roundabouts in the Republic of Armenia where there aren’t any opposing traffic signs indicating that those entering have priority, by law, the drivers already within the roundabout will have priority,” he noted.
Arman Chilingaryan further mentioned that there will also be changes in traffic sign groups, with new signs regarding pedestrians and cyclists being added.
