Vigen Sargsyan Upset with Serzh Sargsyan

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that internal factional movements have begun within the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). One indication of this is RPA Vice President and former Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan's departure to the USA.

Recently, he announced that he would be in the USA for a year to study. However, sources from "Zhoghovurd" claim that he left Armenia upset. In both the 2017 and 2018 parliamentary elections, Vigen Sargsyan led the RPA's proportional list, and it was rumored that Serzh Sargsyan envisioned him as his successor, preparing to transfer the party's leadership to him. There were even talks of holding an RPA congress.

However, Serzh Sargsyan later changed his mind and stated that he would remain in the position of RPA president. Vigen Sargsyan has reportedly expressed in close circles that he sees no future for himself in Armenia. While some RPA members do not wish to see Vigen Sargsyan in the party leadership, many blame Serzh Sargsyan for refusing to leave his position, arguing that the party’s image cannot be cleansed otherwise.

Of course, RPA members do not want to publicize these matters. Yesterday, in an interview with "Zhoghovurd," RPA Vice President Armen Ashatyan denied these reports, stating, "Such an issue has not been on the RPA agenda, so such conversations are misinformation."
