EAEU Membership is a Priority for Armenia, Says Nikol Pashinyan
The membership of Armenia in the EAEU is one of the priority directions of the Armenian government’s activities. This was stated today by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the ongoing intergovernmental meeting of the EAEU.
“We strive for effective participation in the EAEU by taking measures to enhance the efficiency of integration processes. Armenia will make efforts to strengthen the positive dynamics of integration,” Pashinyan said during a meeting in an expanded format of the EAEU Intergovernmental Council.
According to him, one of the key directions within the EAEU is the creation of common markets for gas and oil products, the formation of a common electric energy market, and resolving the issue of energy pricing on a non-discriminatory basis.
“Particular importance is given to the issues of diversifying external economic ties. Armenia will work to expand the geography of free trade agreements and find new partners. It is also necessary to diversify transport infrastructure. Discussions on the Eurasian network project will soon commence, which will contribute to the growth rates of our countries' industries,” noted Pashinyan.
He also announced that the Armenian government is implementing extensive reforms, with the ultimate goal of creating a competitive economy and a modern society based on the rule of law.
“We have achieved results in the fight against corruption, ensured the independence of the judiciary, minimized the activities of artificial monopolies, and taken practical measures to combat the shadow economy. Armenia is a dynamically developing country characterized by predictability and stability. All this occurs against the backdrop of the formation of civil society and fundamental freedoms in the country,” said Pashinyan.
According to him, the Armenian government has a high level of legitimacy, “which inspires bold steps to be taken.”
