VIDEO: Footage Released Involving Officer of Special Investigation Service Taking Bribes

As previously reported, an officer of the criminal investigation department of the Kotayk regional police, identified as G.G., threatened a resident of Kotayk, knowing that the individual had previously used drugs. He asserted that he would take action within the scope of his official duties to create grounds for holding the individual criminally accountable and demanded bribes from him over a period from June 2017 to April 26, 2019. The total amount extorted amounted to 4,265,800 drams.

On April 26, the latest bribe—amounting to 200,000 drams—was transferred under the operational control of the National Security Service and police employees. Immediately after the transfer, the officer was detained. He has been charged under Article 311, Part 4, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code. As a preventive measure, he has been placed in custody.
