Turkey Condemns Portugal's Adoption of Armenian Genocide Resolution

Turkey has condemned the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide adopted by the Portuguese Parliament. This was reported by Ermeni haber.

In a statement made by Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it particularly emphasized that Turkey does not accept the Portuguese Parliament's statement made on April 26 regarding the events of 1915 and considers it completely unacceptable.

Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Portugal to "not distort the facts for domestic political reasons."

Recall that the day before, the Portuguese Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. This was reported by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.

The resolution stated that the number of Armenians who fell victim to genocide during World War I and in the years that followed is estimated to be between 800,000 and 1.5 million. The systematic annihilation of the Armenian minority by the Ottoman authorities is considered by the international community of historians as the first genocide of the 20th century.
