The Charges Against Davit Sanasaryan Are Fully Justified, Says NSS Director

The head of the State Oversight Service (whose powers are temporarily suspended), Davit Sanasaryan, is fully justified in the charges against him, said NSS Director Arthur Vanetsyan during a press briefing with journalists today.

In response to the comment that it is often mentioned that Sanasaryan's case is “fabricated,” the NSS director replied:

“Since the well-known events that took place in April 2018 in the Republic of Armenia, there have been no cases of fabricating or manufacturing cases. We are all building a legal state, and the National Security Service has a key role in this. The charges brought against Davit Sanasaryan are currently fully justified by various testimonies and confrontations. Without violating Mr. Sanasaryan's presumption of innocence, I urge everyone to be a little patient until the case is sent to court, and you all will have the opportunity to familiarize yourselves with all the evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation, and the public, the journalistic community, and others will evaluate the authenticity of that evidence.”

Addressing the question regarding the fact that after the charges were brought against Sanasaryan, all detainees in the case were released, the NSS director noted, for example, in the case of Davit Aydyan, they have appealed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the decision regarding his release.

“I ask everyone not to politicize this case. The case against Mr. Sanasaryan has become very noisy, and the charges brought against him have garnered much attention. I want to say one thing: I, as the NSS director, am obliged to exercise all my powers vested by law, regardless of whether the accused person is my relative, friend, counterpart, or comrade. If they have violated the law, they must stand before the law and answer. If NSS employees allow illegal activities, they too must be punished, and their punishment should be more than severe,” said Arthur Vanetsyan.
