How Many MPs Have Applied for Rent Compensation from the Budget.
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "The Armenian Parliament has become quite an expensive pleasure. Not only are there 131 MPs instead of 101 who receive rather impressive salaries, but it has never happened in the history of parliamentarism that so many MPs have applied for rent compensation, while we are anxiously waiting to see if they will cut us or not," said a Parliamentary staff member.
How many MPs have applied for rent compensation? We asked Tigran Galstyan, the head of the Parliamentary staff. "It will be precise to say how many MPs' applications have been approved because there are criteria that applicants must meet and provide documents for. Currently, 15 MPs benefit from this status: 8 from 'My Step,' 6 from 'Enlightened Armenia,' and 1 from the Prosperous Armenia party," said T. Galstyan.
Interestingly, the representative from the Prosperous Armenia party is Karine Poghosyan, the niece of Hovik Abrahamyan from Artashat. The most intriguing tenant from the Enlightened Armenia is the faction leader Edmond Marukyan. Others are from the regions, and their names do not ring a bell. Among 'My Step' MPs, the 'homeless' ones are minority-representing MPs Knyaz Hasanov, Arsen Mikhalyov, as well as Hovik Aghazaryan from Surenavan village in Ararat.
The remaining names of 'My Step' representatives are also not well-known. Have there been MPs whose applications you rejected? "Yes, there have been due to lack of documents or inaccuracies. Some were already living on rent but didn’t know they needed to sign a contract with the landlord." It appears that this number may still increase. "It’s not excluded," said Tigran Galstyan. It should be noted that the rental amount is 100,000 drams per month.
