The European Investment Bank conducted studies back in 2016 and noted that the state of the Nubarashen landfill is extremely critical. This was stated today, on April 23, during a Yerevan City Council session by Tehmine Vardanyan, a member of the "Luminous" faction.

Mayor Hayk Marutyan responded that he would answer one question: What was your question?

Tehmine Vardanyan replied, “Dear journalists, note that the mayor is avoiding answering questions; get out of this kindergarten situation.”

Hayk Marutyan informed that it is well known that a new landfill is being constructed. “The tender has already been announced. It should be built within two years, after which both the Nubarashen and Ajapnyak landfills should be closed. This is a big project worth $26 million, of which $10 million is a grant.

Ensuring the safety of trash bins is the responsibility of the police, the municipality cannot do that. Regarding the state of waste management, there were already issues by the time the council was formed. We inherited this from the previous ones.”

The mention of the previous government angered the member of “Luminous”. “Stop it, the snow is coming, and you say it's a legacy from the previous government. It’s already embarrassing. We have been in city power for 7 months; you should do something too.”
