Poroshenko Acknowledges Defeat
The current President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, has acknowledged the results of the voting, having received nearly three times fewer votes than his opponent, Volodymyr Zelensky. However, he declared that he will not be leaving politics.
“Next month, I will step down from the position of the country's leader, as decided by the Ukrainians. I accept this decision. However, I must emphasize that I am not leaving politics,” Poroshenko stated, according to TASS agency.
He expressed readiness to help Zelensky familiarize himself with the workings of state affairs until the inauguration day.
Additionally, he called on his team to “never surrender.” “Friends, you are the best,” the politician emphasized while addressing his supporters and colleagues.
