Silence is Truly Golden in the Case of Sasun Mikayelyan: Irates
According to the "Irates" newspaper, "A person's greatest enemy is their tongue: This well-known saying is particularly applicable to parliamentary members of the ruling party. Although Nikol Pashinyan's parliamentary team outnumbers the two opposition forces combined, they are unable to provide counterarguments to even one criticism from the opposition. They limit themselves to either street-level conversations or personal insults. The opposition is more professional and politically engaged. A parity issue arises; in political battles, the government is largely losing.
The 'My Step' faction cannot even adequately defend its own government's proposals. And the manner in which they attempt to defend them is better left undone. The best example of this was the shocking and extremely dangerous statement made by Sasun Mikayelyan, who placed the "revolution" above the Artsakh liberation struggle and, a year ago, did not want to hold the position of the head of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union but has always dreamed of it.
In a wartime country, the head of the border guards announces: "We do not have a second or third line; our soldiers are barely sufficient on the front line, and today, they are learning for a year at the academy. How can a soldier prepare for 12 months?" This person often needs to be urged to speak less, not only because he is revealing state secrets but also because he undermines the years of work of the Ministry of Defense with one absurd sentence.
Of course, understanding his foolishness the next day, Mikayelyan retracted his statement; however, the message had already reached the relevant security forces of the country. There is no turning back. This government, as a whole, operates on the same principle: they make unbalanced statements and then realize just how irresponsible they have been, immediately retracting those statements.
A person who has experienced war should not speak of preparing soldiers for just one month on the front line, making comparisons with the Soviet era. During those years, a person serving in the military should at least know that new recruits must undergo serious preparation for a minimum of 6 months before going to the front line. Not to delve into other details, just one observation: participation in the liberation struggle is not a sufficient condition for speaking about victory and the army, and in the case of Sasun Mikayelyan, silence is indeed golden.
