Montreal City Council Adopts Resolution on Armenian Genocide

On April 15, the Montreal City Council adopted a resolution (statement) in a special session to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The text of the resolution specifically notes that the Armenian Genocide of 1915 was the first genocide of the 20th century, during which two-thirds of the Armenian nation perished. The statement also highlights that approximately 50,000 Armenians living in Montreal actively contribute to the cultural, economic, and political life of the city.

April 24, 2019, will be declared a day of remembrance for the Armenian Genocide in Montreal; on that day, the city council will deliver a special message to pay tribute to the victims of the genocide and express support for the Armenian people.
