Will Electricity Prices Rise or Fall?
A contract has been signed regarding the price of water for a 15-year management period, and there are pricing mechanisms involved. This was stated by Garegin Baghramyan, the acting Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, during the discussion on the appointment of the head of the Public Services Regulatory Commission at the National Assembly on April 18, in response to a question from Karen Simonian, a member of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ party.
Simonian was particularly interested in whether gas, electricity, and water prices would be reviewed downwards following Baghramyan's appointment.
According to the acting minister, the Commission's role only involves controlling the reduction of losses. When discussing electricity tariffs, Baghramyan noted that they can only be revised starting from February 1, 2020. Furthermore, the candidate found it difficult to clarify what the rates will be after the indicated date, only promising to put in all efforts to ensure they are beneficial for the citizens. “The tariffs should instill confidence among the population. They should not have doubts and must be assured that the current rate is justified and that the services provided correspond to the payments made,” Baghramyan vague
