We have heard that there is a note with the investigators: the village head on the soldier who committed suicide
A 24-year-old soldier, Narek S., who passed away today at the Mikayelian Surgical Hospital in Yerevan, was from the village of Zovk in Kotayk Province. According to the Investigative Committee, he inflicted a gunshot wound on himself.
In an interview with NEWS.am, the former village head of Zovk, Norik Gevorgyan, struggled to answer the question of what could have driven Narek S. to commit suicide, but noted that he was a working, calm young man: “He was a calm guy, he worked and studied at the Crisis Management State Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia. He started working in January. He had not distinguished himself in any bad way or act—no fights, no hooliganism. His family are decent people, respected, honorable, all of them working; he had two sisters and a younger brother who is also serving in the army in Artsakh.”
Norik Gevorgyan mentioned that they have heard a note was found in the young man’s pocket but they are unaware if he took this step due to a girl he loved: “We have heard that there is a note with the investigators, but we do not know its contents. None of us has seen this note. As for the girl he might have loved, we don’t know if he had a girlfriend, as she is not from the village; she might be from somewhere else.”
Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Armenia had informed NEWS.am that a report was received from the Military Police of the Ministry of Defense regarding contract soldier N.S. on April 18, 2019, approximately at 08:20, indicating that he inflicted a gunshot wound on himself in the arsenal of the military unit N.
