Sanitek Company Issues Statement
In light of the numerous publications in the media regarding waste collection and the Sanitek company in recent days, as well as the announcement released by the city hall stating that the company has been fined, we call on the municipality to be objective and also publish the letters and warnings that Sanitek has sent to the city hall since last year, drawing the attention of the relevant authorities to the problems and circumstances obstructing the provision of waste collection services.
Moreover, during the months of October and November last year, a number of meetings and negotiations took place, and there are minutes documenting that the company has repeatedly informed about the existing problems and warned that, without immediate solutions, the city of Yerevan would face a waste management crisis, which we are witnessing today.
We also inform that the issues identified by the company have not received appropriate solutions to date, while Sanitek continues to incur significant damages and losses as a foreign investor, which fall outside the company’s responsibility. Sanitek, as a foreign investor, should always be granted a more favorable regime and fair and equal protection in Armenia.
Like before, the main concern of Sanitek remains the well-being of Yerevan and its residents; all our efforts should be directed towards this goal. Everyone is aware of the reasons for the existing problems in the waste collection process. The issues the company has faced since the very beginning of its operations and the damages it has incurred have been thoroughly presented to the relevant authorities and acknowledged, which led to the announcement in February regarding the tender for purchasing waste collection vehicles, with a preliminary agreement on leasing these vehicles to Sanitek. This solution did not materialize, but there are numerous other solutions available if there is a desire to resolve them and if the intentions of the parties are sincere. The parties should be equally protected under the law and have the opportunity to voice the problems they encounter. Blame is not a solution; mutual agreement is the solution.
Furthermore, we once again urge our partner to maintain the bounds of correctness and provide the public only with objective information, rather than one-sided and in favor of the Yerevan city hall. Sanitek reiterates that it is entirely apolitical and is not subjected to any political fluctuations, so we request that our name not be used to gain additional political dividends.
