City Hall on Waste Collection
In Yerevan, waste collection and sanitation must be brought to an acceptable level. To achieve this, the city authorities will do everything possible, including resorting to urgent, at times drastic, but exclusively legal measures.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the Yerevan City Hall, Hakob Karapetyan, on his Facebook page.
He noted, “The question of allowing the acquisition of waste collection vehicles for the Yerevan community through a ‘single vendor’ procurement process will be discussed at the government meeting on April 18. The necessity for this decision is due to the fact that the procurement process for waste collection vehicles organized by Yerevan City Hall this February was challenged, resulting in the issue being under judicial review at the initiative of the City Hall, with no clear timeline for a ruling from the court.”
The sanitary situation in the Yerevan community has significantly deteriorated due to improper waste collection, necessitating direct intervention from the Yerevan City Hall. Therefore, the acquisition of waste collection vehicles through a competitive procurement process within the specified timeframe could lead to a sanitary collapse in the community.
Considering the urgent timeframes, it is proposed that the procurement for waste collection vehicles be organized in the form of single vendor purchasing by the Yerevan community.
