“Considering the public interest regarding alleged abuses committed by employees of the Republic of Armenia's State Audit Office, the NSS announces that charges have been filed against David Sanasyan for abuse of official powers and causing serious consequences, as well as for cases of forging, selling, and using documents by a group of individuals with prior agreement. The criminal case was initiated on February 20, 2019, under parts 2 of Article 308 and part 2 of Article 325 of the Republic of Armenia's Criminal Code, based on sufficient evidence obtained during the pre-trial investigation. Charges were filed against David Sanasyan on April 18, 2019, under part 1 of Article 308 of the Criminal Code.
Sufficient evidence has been obtained in the criminal case, which prima facie indicates that he, being the head of the State Audit Office, has allegedly abused his official position to benefit the business activities of a company effectively managed by his employees, contrary to the interests of the service, while also failing to fulfill his official duties.
As a precautionary measure, a signature not to leave the country has been applied to him.
With the consent of the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the preliminary investigation, a decision was made by the investigator on April 18, 2019, to temporarily suspend David Sanasyan from his position as head of the State Audit Office, which has been sent to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
The preliminary investigation continues, and measures are being taken to ensure a multifaceted, complete, and objective examination of the circumstances of the case.”
