Defense Lawyers of 'Spayka' Director Appeal His Detention Decision

The defense lawyers of Davit Ghazaryan, the founder and director of 'Spayka' company, have appealed to the Court of Appeals regarding the decision to detain Ghazaryan and the rejection of bail. This was stated by one of the lawyers, Karen Sardarjan, in a conversation with NEWS.am.

He mentioned that he cannot provide any new information regarding the appeal and that the date of the hearing is not known. Regarding the amount of the bail, he noted that they had proposed a reasonable sum in the motion.

It is recalled that on April 8, the General Jurisdiction Court of the Center and Norq-Marasht administrative districts in Yerevan decided to choose detention as a preventive measure against Davit Ghazaryan, the founder and director of 'Spayka' LLC. The court rejected the lawyers’ request to release Ghazaryan on bail.

On April 4, 2019, Davit Ghazaryan was charged under Article 205, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code (failure to pay taxes or other mandatory payments in especially large amounts).

On April 4, a motion was submitted by the investigator of the State Revenue Committee to the first instance court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan to select detention as a preventive measure against Davit Venger Ghazaryan.

According to the State Revenue Committee's announcement, 'Spayka' company failed to pay a customs duty and tax amounting to 7,036,666,312 AMD, generated from the company’s business activities.
