Charentsavan Park Leased to Private Entity for 'Negligible' Fee, Says Governor

The Charentsavan municipal park has been leased to a private company for a 'negligible' fee and is expected to be returned to the public. This was stated by Kotayk Governor Romanos Petrosyan on his Facebook page.

“The Charentsavan municipal park must be returned to the residents of Charentsavan through legal means, just as the Hrazdan municipal park was returned to the people of Hrazdan last year. Legal proceedings in accordance with the law have already been initiated,” he stated.

Additionally, he mentioned that the Charentsavan park, covering an area of about 12 hectares, was leased to a private company in 2005 for 25 years for a 'negligible' fee. After several months of direct and mediated negotiations, a proposal was made to the private entity to voluntarily terminate the lease agreement and return the park to the community, but the company declined.

The governor noted that the community is prepared and able to renovate the park, implementing its own resources for landscaping and installing irrigation and lighting systems to transform it into a well-maintained public park.

“Green spaces and parks in Kotayk, particularly in urban communities, are sacred under the 60th article of the Land Code, at the very least according to our value-based political culture, and belong exclusively to the community and its citizens,” he emphasized.
