VIDEO: US Secretary of State's Statement Was a Message - Davit Babayan
It was very important for U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to issue a particular statement. This was noted by Davit Babayan, Deputy Head of the Artsakh President's Office and Head of the Main Information Department, during a Facebook live stream.
“Let us set aside the geopolitical context, but he made a very interesting explanation while talking about the Golan Heights for Israel. He stated that aggression has occurred, and from a defensive standpoint, when a country faces aggression from an enemy nation, that country has the right to self-defense, and this self-defense can manifest itself through changes in borders. In this case, the alteration of borders is legitimized. This is a very important statement,” Babayan said, adding that they are not delving into the geopolitical context of that statement, but rather taking the fact itself.
“We are saying, look how the opinions of the international community are changing. In this case, this is a very important argument for us that we should utilize. Essentially, Azerbaijan has exhibited aggression against Artsakh, has launched a large-scale war, and as a result, the borders have changed. Therefore, this change in borders is legitimate. This is, in fact, what the U.S. has conveyed through the voice of its Secretary of State and President. This is indeed a message, a testament to the vision of a great power. We must take this into account and certainly refer to such ideas during similar discussions,” he stated.
