Land Seized for Burial in Gyumri Sold as Graves, Reports 'Joghovurd'
'Joghovurd' newspaper reports that 'there are no available plots for burials in the cemeteries of Gyumri. The first and second cemeteries are partially closed. Even in 2008, then-mayor Vardan Ghukasyan signed a decision regarding this issue. However, despite the decision, land has continued to be allocated since then.
The 'Shirak' cemetery remains open, but burials are allowed here only under very limited conditions. Moreover, over the years, burials have taken place outside the designated areas, in fields or on roads. Now, residents of the Shirak village claim that the 'Eternal Memory' company in Gyumri has seized their land and sold it to citizens as graves.
Acting director of 'Eternal Memory' company, Artyom Davtyan, acknowledges the concerns and looks for solutions, yet emphasizes that there are no other suitable areas in Gyumri.'
