Turkey Angered by Macron's Decree on Armenian Genocide

The response from official Ankara did not take long. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu addressed Macron's decree on his Twitter page, stating:

“The decree by French President Emmanuel Macron is a clear violation of the decisions made by the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court of France,” adding, “First and foremost, they should look at their own dark history. A quarter-century has passed since the Rwandan genocide.”

This information was reported by the Turkish service of Deutsche Welle.

As previously reported, French President Emmanuel Macron signed a decree on April 10 establishing April 24 as a day of remembrance for the Armenian genocide. The decree states that the day of remembrance for the genocide of Armenians in 1915 should be designated as April 24. An event will be held each year on this day in Paris. Similar events can be organized in each department upon the initiative of local authorities. The French Prime Minister is responsible for the implementation of this decision.
