Residents of Zartonq Village Demand Mayor's Resignation Amid Clash

This morning, residents of Zartonq village demanded the resignation of community leader Paruyr Sargsyan. The residents blocked the Armavir-Yerevan inter-state road but later opened it upon police urging.

SHANTNEWS.am spoke with Suren Poghosyan, a participant in the protest and a resident of Zartonq village, who provided details of the incident.

According to him, a complaint was filed based on the "irresponsible" behavior of the school principal, and today a commission was supposed to examine the complaint.

“They have turned that school into their own territory; we had written to the regional administration asking for a commission to come and check everything. The clashes today occurred between the village residents and school employees,” he said.

Suren Poghosyan noted that the citizens wanted to be near the school to learn about the results published by the commission. However, clashes began between a school staff member and village residents, resulting in the school employee sustaining a head injury and being taken to the hospital.

SHANTNEWS.am also contacted Zartonq community leader Paruyr Sargsyan for comment on the accusations against him, but the mayor stated that he would not comment on anything at the moment as he was only concerned about the health of the injured individual.
