Pashinyan Points Accusatory Arrows for April War

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan does not seem to hesitate to touch on painful topics during international meetings, reminding his counterparts of their "sins." The latest manifestation of this was in the PACE session.

On one hand, he spoke about the positive role of PACE in Armenia, while on the other hand, when discussing the resolution process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he pointed accusatory arrows at Europeans for the 2016 April War.

"I cannot help but notice that the discussions regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue that took place in PACE in January 2016 became a preamble to the four-day war that erupted in April of the same year and created a favorable ground for the armed actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces. I do not want to assert confidently that this was done consciously, but nonetheless, the authors of those discussions and documents became the instigators of war," he stated.

Many will remember the scandalous resolution concerning the Sarsang reservoir by Milica Markovic during the January 2016 session of PACE, which was adopted with a ratio of 98 votes in favor to 71 against. This contained unacceptable formulations for the Armenian side, particularly stating that "the reservoir is located in one of the territories of Azerbaijan that has been occupied by Armenia." At that time, the PACE also discussed but rejected the proposal by Walter about "The Rise of Violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan." It turns out that Pashinyan is pointing to those discussions, emphasizing that the Europeans, in essence, allowed the resumption of the war with those deliberations.

Interestingly, many figures at that time, including Armenia's Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, expressed the opinion that the resolution adopted by PACE would "have no impact on the resolution of the Karabakh issue." However, it appears that this, too, had its impact.
