Sasoun Mikayelyan to Head the YEKM and Leave the Civil Contract Party
At the 12th extraordinary assembly of the "Union of Volunteer Militias," Sasoun Mikayelyan, commander of the "Sasoun" volunteer group and MP, was unanimously elected as the chairman of the governing body. This information was conveyed by Ara Ketikyan, a member of the YEKM's governing body, following the inaugural meeting on April 7.
“During the inaugural meeting, there was only one proposal, which passed unanimously. According to the decision of the governing body, Sasoun Mekhaki Mikayelyan has been elected as the chairman of the YEKM,” Ketikyan stated.
During the 12th extraordinary assembly of the union, it was also decided to reduce the governing body to 25 members. The newly elected governing body includes Manvel Ohanyan, Hovik Ohanyan, Aram Sargsyan, Mukuch Sapeian, Barsegh Barseghyan, Garnik Mikayelyan, Gagik Khachatryan, Samson Khachatryan, Andranik Mkrtchyan, Sasoun Mikayelyan, Suren Barseghyan, Manvel Yeghiazaryan, Ara Ketikyan, Ghukas Ulikhanyan, Andranik Kocharyan, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, Hakob Hakobyan, Martin Karapetyan, Armen Mkhitaryan, Manvel Hovsepyan, Khachik Galstyan, Hrant Sargsyan, Vardan Petrosyan, Rustam Gasparyan, and Stepan Nikoghosyan.
The newly elected chairman of the "Union of Volunteer Militias," Sasoun Mikayelyan, announced that he will resign from his position as chairman of the Civil Contract party in May. According to Mikayelyan, this was reported by Armenpress.
“I cannot simultaneously serve as the president of both the party and the YEKM. According to the Civil Contract party’s charter, the president can serve for 2 years. My term has expired. A party congress will be held in May, at which time I will resign from my duties,” said Sasoun Mikayelyan.
The commander of the “Sasoun” volunteer group and MP Sasoun Mikayelyan emphasized that the YEKM will never become an appendage of any political party.
