The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction has sentenced Prosperous Armenia Party MP Eduard Babayan to 3.5 years of imprisonment; however, he has been released under amnesty. This was reported to NEWS.am by Aravik Khachatryan, the head of the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The court announced its verdict on April 5. It is noteworthy that Eduard Babayan is the former head of the security detail for Gagik Tsarukyan.

Babayan had previously rejected the charges against him in court. The victim in the case, Vyacheslav Harutyunov, also stated that he does not consider himself a victim.

According to the indictment, on July 2, 2018, Babayan inflicted blows on Vyacheslav Harutyunov in the meeting hall of the 'Olimpavan' sports complex, intentionally causing serious harm to his health. The case was assigned to Judge Mesrop Makyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.

It is worth noting that Babayan was released from detention on August 21, 2018, after posting a bail of 20 million drams, and was elected as an MP in the snap parliamentary elections held on December 9, 2018.
