Gunfire in Yerevan: Victim is a Private Entrepreneur
On April 1, an extraordinary incident occurred in Yerevan. Around 21:30, a report was received at the Malatia police station from the Astghik Medical Center, indicating that a citizen had been admitted with a diagnosis of a "gunshot wound to the right hand."
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an operational group from the Malatia police station, led by the station's deputy head Andranik Shahbazyan, was dispatched to the hospital. Police determined that the victim was 49-year-old Avetis Barskyan, a resident of Yerevan, who sustained the injury on Shahumyan 6th street. While doctors were providing medical aid to the wounded individual, Malatia police, led by station chief Arthur Zohrabyan and deputy head A. Shahbazyan, found out that a dispute had taken place between A. Barskyan and 49-year-old Arthur Avagyan, who also lives on Shahumyan 6th street. During this altercation, Avagyan fired his 9 mm caliber revolver, resulting in the gunshot wound to Barskyan.
As a result of police efforts, A. Avagyan voluntarily presented himself to the police and handed over the firearm used in the crime.
Investigative materials are being prepared at the Malatia police station regarding the incident. A. Avagyan has been released on signature. According to the photojournalist's information, A. Barskyan is a private entrepreneur.
Notice: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court decision that has entered into legal force in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
