Minor Inmate Attempts Self-Harm
On March 25, representatives of the Human Rights Defender conducted a visit to a minor inmate who had attempted self-harm, based on an alert from the Helsinki Civil Assembly's Vanadzor office.
The visit to Abovyan Penitentiary was carried out in cooperation with representatives of the group of public observers monitoring the public oversight of the Ministry of Justice's penitentiary institutions and bodies.
An independent expert psychologist from the National Preventive Mechanism of the Human Rights Defender had a private conversation with the minor who self-harmed and his cellmates. The representatives of the Human Rights Defender examined the conditions of the minor's detention, his medical documents, and their compliance with the established requirements.
Following the interviews, a discussion took place with the prison administration. The issue of safeguarding the minor's rights is under the direct attention of the Human Rights Defender.
