Concerns in Moscow: What Lavrov and Mnatsakanyan Discussed

The newspaper "168 Hours" reports that the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Russia issued a rather vague statement yesterday regarding a telephone conversation between Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The statement noted, "A number of issues related to the Armenian-Russian alliance agenda and cooperation on bilateral and multilateral platforms were discussed," which does not provide much information.

However, according to our sources, the main topic of the phone call focused on the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev, as well as clarifying the Armenian side's positions and conveying the Russian side’s positions regarding the meeting.

The Russian side expresses concern that Armenia may agree to certain concessions without consulting with official Moscow. However, Russia does not want this potential process to take place outside of its control.
