Tragic Accident: Head-On Collision Between Mercedes and '01' Resulting in Fatality

A severe and tragic road accident occurred in the Ararat region. Today, on March 13, at approximately 00:40, a collision took place on the 68 km stretch of the Yerevan-Meghri highway between a VAZ 2101, driven by 57-year-old Manvel Petrosyan from the village of Paruir Sevak in the Ararat region, which had no license plates, and a Mercedes with license plate 34 RA 875, driven by 34-year-old Arthur Dovlatyan from Sisian.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, as a result of the accident, the driver of the VAZ was killed on the spot, while 26-year-old Vahan Avetisyan, a passenger in the Mercedes and a resident of Yerevan, sustained injuries and was transported to the Ararat Medical Center.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the medical staff of the Ararat Medical Center acted quickly, and the injured was accompanied to the hospital by Captain Vahan Evinyan of the 1st platoon of the 2nd patrol company of the Road Police. The Emergency Situations Ministry's Rescue Service also arrived promptly, led by Arthur Gasparyan, the commander of the 1st shift of the Ararat fire-rescue brigade.

The deceased was extracted from the vehicle by firefighters Gor Manukyan, Aram Sargsyan, and Gagik Nurijanian, using specialized equipment. Officers from the 2nd platoon of the 2nd patrol company of the Road Police, led by Sergeant Karapet Harutyunyan, also arrived at the scene. Investigators from the Ararat regional investigative department of the Armenian Investigative Committee were working on the site, where a criminal case was initiated under the second part of Article 242 of the RA Criminal Code.

According to the photojournalist, as a result of the collision, the Mercedes was thrown off the roadway and ended up in a ravine, while the gas cylinder was detached from the '01' and thrown away, completely turning the '01' into a pile of metal debris.
