Nearly 1000 Right-Hand Drive Vehicles to Be Imported by May 1

The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Economic Affairs met to discuss a draft amendment to the law on prohibiting the import of right-hand drive vehicles.

Armenia's Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies, Hakob Arshakyan, noted that if the law is passed, it will allow the importation of right-hand drive vehicles located in customs zones, specifically those purchased before December 30, 2018, into the country by May 1.

"This does not apply to newly purchased vehicles," the minister stated, adding that the discussion is concerning up to a thousand vehicles.

Arshakyan advised Armenian citizens to refrain from changing the steering wheel to import vehicles into Armenia. "There should be work in this direction, possibly even through legislative initiatives, to prevent vehicles in poor condition or improperly modified steering wheel cars from being imported into Armenia. First and foremost, I would like to urge our citizens to conduct mandatory technical inspections when purchasing vehicles and to make necessary modifications if they do not meet proper conditions before driving. Secondly, we have included clear tightening in the modernization process of technical inspections regarding steering systems and brakes. These components will be thoroughly checked during the inspections," he said.
