Dog Culling Officially Halted in Ejmiadzin: Ovsanna Hovsepyan
Ovsanna Hovsepyan, a member of the Yerevan City Council representing the "My Step" faction, announced on her Facebook page that
"A meeting with Ejmiadzin Mayor Diana Gasparyan took place, after which the culling of dogs in Ejmiadzin city was officially halted, and a sterilization program commenced. There are currently 40 sterilized and vaccinated dogs wandering in Ejmiadzin, identifiable by specific yellow tags on their ears. The program will continue until 100 dogs are sterilized.
Diana is the first female mayor and initiated this program at the community level in Ejmiadzin."
In an interview with Econewsam Eco Norutyunner, Diana stated, "We prefer international best practices and exclude violence against animals. Culling may seem like a more accessible and rapid method at first glance, but in the long run, it is more costly and ineffective because nature regulates itself and proliferates at a higher rate. After sterilization, they no longer roam in packs, do not attack people, and also protect and monitor the area against incursions by other dogs."
p.s. We need more female mayors in the Republic."
