Mixed Reactions to Samvel Babayan in Artsakh

According to the "Past" newspaper, processes of reorganization and repositioning of forces have begun in Artsakh ahead of the 2020 elections. According to information from the newspaper, the desire of Samvel Babayan to run for the position of the President of the Republic of Artsakh has created some confusion within the opposition forces in Artsakh, as the attitude towards Babayan is, to put it mildly, not uniform.

For example, Vahan Badalyan, who has held various positions in the Hadrut region, has even claimed that he does not consider Babayan to be part of the opposition, hinting at particular trends of relations with the authorities. In his recent interviews, he recalled that they had previously fought against "Samvel Babayan's dictatorship" for 7-8 years.

According to the newspaper, some sympathizers of the "Sasna Tsrer" party have also informally expressed significant reservations regarding Babayan's behavior and actions in the 1990s during various conversations.

Incidentally, it is worth noting that recently Samvel Babayan himself announced that he does not communicate with Zhirayr Seyfullyan due to differences in approaches regarding the Artsakh issue. Our sources in Artsakh indicate that there will also be statements from other figures in the near future, including opposition MP Hayk Khanumyan.
