‘How can a Armenian say such words?’ Solovyov comments on the scandal involving Ruben Hakhverdyan

Noted Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov addressed the scandalous statement made by songwriter Ruben Hakhverdyan on his radio show ‘Polnyy Kontakt’ where Hakhverdyan claimed that ‘Karabakh residents are Azerbaijanis because they grew up in an Azerbaijani environment.’

‘I really cannot understand how an Armenian can utter such words,’ Solovyov expressed in dismay.

According to information from the newspaper am, he noted that the majority of people criticized Hakhverdyan and the host Hamlet Ghushchyan who agreed with his viewpoint, which indicates that ‘for normal Armenians, it absolutely does not matter where their compatriots were born.’

Solovyov is concerned that ‘in Armenia, people have begun to express themselves this way about those who preferred death over slavery and endured horrific trials, under fire when “Grad” was destroying the peaceful city of Stepanakert.’

‘Hunger, terrible tortures… how can one forget that, how can one betray those who fought for their right to live freely? And then the explanation: ‘No, we were only talking about their elite.’ What elite? The commanders of the war? How can one betray their history? Which Armenian is betraying their history? I don’t care what your political situation is and whom you hate, but can this suffering people’s history be betrayed like this? This is completely a Ukrainian scenario. These are entirely foreign technologies for you,’ Solovyov said.

Meanwhile, the host added that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly stated that he is pro-Russian and that Russia is a friendly country.

In this context, he also addressed the Armenian public: ‘Can’t you see what they are trying to do to you?’

‘Fortunately, your foundation is still healthy, and you can resist this, but look at Ukraine. It’s very sad. Listen, Armenians are not that many in the world and even less so in Armenia. And now they are going to start solving some questions with each other,’ he remarked.

Solovyov was also shocked by the incident involving civic activist Narek Malyan, who was attempted to be thrown into a garbage container.

‘It’s very good that a criminal case has been initiated against those people and that Prime Minister Pashinyan responded and condemned attempts to use force. But I don’t understand how such a thing can happen,’ he stated.

Solovyov appreciated the fact that Pashinyan’s team responded to his statement regarding his friend, prominent businessman Seyran Karapetyan, who is being prevented from implementing a business project in Armenia because he is of Karabakh descent.

He expressed a desire to find the time to visit Armenia and, if possible, meet with the country's leadership to understand what is happening there.

‘I am very worried. We cannot allow the emergence of internal Armenian hostility,’ concluded Solovyov in his remarks regarding Armenia.
