Tonoyan Excludes Appointment of CSTO Secretary General Without Armenia's Consent
During a press briefing today at Yerablur, Defense Minister David Tonoyan excluded the possibility of appointing a CSTO Secretary General without the consent of the Republic of Armenia.
In response to a comment that recently, the Belarusian candidate for Secretary General Stanislav Zas stated that the CSTO regulations allow decisions to be made with a limited composition, David Tonoyan replied:
“The appointment of the CSTO Secretary General is not a decision that is tactical or operational-tactical. This is a matter of electing the Secretary General of a strategic alliance—how can one elect or appoint a secretary without the consent of one member of the alliance? The regulations do not allow for such a thing; they allow for other matters, but not for the election of the Secretary General,” he said.
