Pashinyan's Remarks to the President of Armenia

Pashinyan's Remarks to the President of Armenia

The newspaper "Zhoghavorud" reports that yesterday, a meeting took place at the presidential residence between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Armen Sarkissian. According to the official statement, they discussed various agenda items. Concurrently, they addressed recent foreign visits.

Armen Sarkissian congratulated Nikol Pashinyan on his successful visit to Iran. Pashinyan also spoke about the upcoming foreign policy agenda concerning his planned visits, simultaneously emphasizing, "This entire foreign policy agenda is, of course, important to serve the objectives of our economic revolution. I am aware that you have also had certain meetings during this time which align with this thinking. It is also crucial to coordinate this information so that the implementation of the agreements becomes more effective."

At first glance, these remarks from Prime Minister Pashinyan may seem ordinary; however, they carry significant political undertones. Thus, Pashinyan indirectly but openly expressed his negative attitude towards Armen Sarkissian's recent foreign visits, specifically regarding the confidentiality of the agreements reached in the economic sphere.

He is now emphasizing the importance of coordinating information from both sides. It is no secret that recently, Armen Sarkissian has been very active with foreign visits. Pashinyan is effectively voicing a specific stance on this matter, especially given that constitutionally, the president has very limited powers in the foreign policy domain, which does not include the ability to make agreements on behalf of the state.
