Fog, Black Ice: Several Roads Closed

The Ministry of Emergency Situations informs that as of March 1, at 14:00, there are closed and difficult-to-navigate roads in the territory of Armenia.

The Vardenyats Pass and the Goris-Sisian section of the Yerevan-Meghri highway (around 50 vehicles are stranded) are closed.

The Sotk-Karvachar highway is closed for trucks with trailers, and is difficult to navigate for passenger vehicles.

The Red Pass, as well as the intercommunity roads in the Tavush region from Berd to Chambarak, the Aragatsotn region sections from Chknagh to Zoraghk and Arai to Vardenut, and Kuchak to Tsaghkashen, and the Shirak region's Ashtarak and Amasia intercommunity roads are also difficult to navigate.

In the Siunik region’s road network, at kilometer 17-20 of the Stepanavan-Vanadzor road in Lori province, and at the “Spitak” bends, and on the M-2 highway section known as “Zanger”, there are patches of black ice.

It is currently snowing in the city of Martuni in the Gegharkunik province.

Blizzards are occurring in the Goris-Sisian section of the Yerevan-Meghri highway.

There is fog in Goris city and the area known as “Meghri Mountain” in the Siunik region.

Drivers are advised to travel exclusively on winter tires.

According to the information received from the Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the Stepanantsminda-Lars road is open for all types of vehicles.

Construction Work Underway

Construction works are being carried out on the Vanadzor-Alaverdi road from kilometer 39 to Bagratashen.

Alternative routes have been established for vehicle traffic:

Intra-community traffic towards the cities of Alaverdi and Vanadzor and nearby communities is to be carried out via:

Vanadzor-Stepanavan-Agarak-Koghes-Aykahat-Odzun-Alaverdi via Georgian border road segments.

Note: Since June 30, 2018, construction work has been ongoing at the 139th kilometer of the Yerevan-Meghri highway, resulting in a one-way closure of approximately 200 meters as of March 1, 2023.
