Rizhkow Offended by Ararat Mirzoyan

Rizhkow Offended by Ararat Mirzoyan

According to the '168 Hours' newspaper, the visit of the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, to Moscow was not smooth.

As is known, the newly formed 7th convocation of the parliament has begun to establish its international delegations, including the Armenian-Russian inter-parliamentary cooperation delegation. The new authorities of Armenia are attempting to appoint the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, as the co-chair from the Armenian side.

From a diplomatic perspective, the positions of the heads of delegations from both sides should be compatible. If Armenia appoints a deputy speaker as co-chair, then the same is expected from the Russian Federation. This was openly discussed by Ararat Mirzoyan during his meeting with Matviyenko.

However, according to our sources, the Russian side does not intend to appoint a corresponding official as co-chair of the Armenian-Russian inter-parliamentary cooperation delegation. Moreover, the Russian side reportedly expressed its surprise regarding Mirzoyan's discussion of this issue. The matter is that the co-chair position on the Russian side is still held by Armenia's national hero Nikolai Rizhkow.

In other words, Mirzoyan's remarks have been accepted as a direct criticism against Rizhkow.
