Imprisoned Karen Ghazaryan Sentenced to 20 Years in Azerbaijan

On February 27, the Ganja Serious Crimes Court sentenced Karen Armeni Ghazaryan, a citizen of Armenia and resident of Berdavan village in Tavush, to 20 years in prison for "attempting a terrorist act in Azerbaijan."

This was reported by the Azerbaijani news agency "Report." It is noted that he will be held in a "high-security penal institution," according to Razminfo.

The fabricated charges against Karen Ghazaryan include the following:

  • "Crimes against life and health";
  • "Crime in the field of economic activity";
  • "Crime against public safety";
  • "Crime against constitutional order and state security";
  • "Crime against state governance order.";

It should be recalled that on July 15 of this year, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense claimed that an Armenian saboteur had been arrested near Kazakh. It later became clear that the captured individual was Karen Ghazaryan, born in 1984, from the border village of Berdavan.

The Ministry of Defense of Armenia stated that the citizen does not serve and has never served in the Armenian armed forces.
