I Am Forced to Regretfully State That Some Russian Colleagues Participated in a Vivid Anti-Armenian Action – Ararat Mirzoyan

Armenia is committed to the exclusively peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the realities in the region and the fundamental principles of international law. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, while addressing Russian senators.

Mirzoyan particularly emphasized: “The aforementioned humanitarian component becomes even more urgent, especially during these days when all Armenians around the world remember the victims of the infamous Sumgait massacre, which took place more than thirty years ago and became the starting point for the massacres against Armenians, initiating a widespread ethnic cleansing policy. This led to the departure of the Armenian population from Baku, Sumgait, Ganja, and other cities.”

“Dear colleagues, I want to particularly emphasize that Armenia remains committed to the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, taking into account the realities in the region and based on fundamental principles of international law, particularly the right to self-determination of peoples, within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship, which is the only format that has the legitimate mandate of the international community. In this context, I would like to highlight that we highly appreciate the role of the Russian Federation as a co-chairing country of the Minsk Group.”

“Dear colleagues, I am forced to regretfully state that, despite the high level of Allied cooperation between our countries and the consistent efforts of the Russian side aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, some of our Russian colleagues literally became participants in a vivid anti-Armenian action that took place in Baku and aimed at undermining sustainable peace and stability in the region. Furthermore, the participation of members of the Russian-Armenian interparliamentary commission in that event raises justifiable concern.”
