Armenian Ambassador in Russia on Participation of Russian MPs in Anti-Armenian Rally in Baku

The Armenian side expresses its indignation regarding the participation of a group of Russian lawmakers in an anti-Armenian event held in Baku. This was stated today by Vardan Toghanyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia, in an interview with Echo of Moscow radio.

“We are outraged by the participation of Russian MPs in the rally held in Baku, which has an openly anti-Armenian nature and has been used to undermine trust in the region. We do not understand the motivations of the parliamentarians, why they show solidarity in Baku and what ‘mission’ they have in participating in such actions, which are part of a propaganda campaign of a separate state,” said the ambassador, adding that as before, the Armenian side aims to establish friendly bridges and sincere, allied relations.

“We hope that our Russian colleagues will provide an appropriate assessment of the participation of parliamentarians in a well-organized anti-Armenian movement, aimed at sowing distrust and misinterpretation,” emphasized the ambassador.

It should be noted that on February 26, a rally was held in Baku dedicated to the anniversary of the “Khojaly tragedy,” which had an openly anti-Armenian character. Among the participants were Russian deputies Oksana Pushkina, Dmitry Savelyev, Alexey Zhuravlyov, Mikhail Emelev, and Irina Rodnina, who is also a member of the Armenia-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Committee.
