Singer Shakira to be Tried for Hiding 14.5 Million Euros
Singer Shakira is set to appear before a Spanish court on June 12. She is accused of failing to comply with tax obligations and hiding her assets and properties. This was reported by Europa Press agency.
The court in the town of Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona, has accepted a six-point lawsuit from the prosecution related to tax evasion.
According to the prosecution, Shakira concealed her earnings through 14 companies established in the Cayman Islands, the Virgin Islands, Panama, and other offshore jurisdictions. The amount in question is approximately 14.5 million euros.
The tax authority suspects that over the past four years, the singer has avoided paying taxes in Spain, despite having predominantly lived in the country during that period.
Last year, media outlets reported that Shakira had paid a multi-million euro fine to the Spanish tax authority for failing to pay taxes between 2011 and 2014.
It is worth noting that Shakira was in a romantic relationship with Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué from 2010 to 2017.
